Autumn Festival of Steam

28th & 29th September 2019

Whilst our Autumn Gala does ring similar bells to the Summer Gala, We're branding it as our 'Autumn Festival of Steam' thanks to the guest appearance of up to 15 road steam vehicles alongside our home fleet of locomotives. We're also throwing a diesel locomotive into the line up because.....Well, Because why not?

The weekend will begin at around 6am on Saturday when our locomotives will be prepared by our volunteer locomotive crews. Caverswall Road Station will be open to the public from around 9am however feel free to come along earlier and say hello to our volunteers whilst they get ready for their busy days!
Our station buffet will be open from around 9am- It's not the weekend without a full English breakfast and a 'proper brew' is it?
Once breakfast is out the way, The crews start their busy timetables. An intensive passenger service will be in operation throughout the day between Caverswall Road and Dilhorne Park whilst demonstration freight trains will be tackling the famous 1in19 gradient out of Foxfield Colliery to Dilhorne Park.
Throughout the day, there will be regular runs up Foxfield Bank and the 1in19 gradient- Steep enough to make any locomotive work hard let alone our smaller industrial locos! You'll be able to catch the train to Dilhorne Park and then follow the footpath right next to the railway down to Foxfield Colliery. (Please don't walk along the railway. Your safety is our priority and therefore any trespassers will be removed from the event without refund)
The road steam vehicles will be on display at Caverswall Road and Foxfield Colliery and will make regular trips throughout the day between the two! If all goes to plan, We're hoping that the Dubs crane tank can load a trailer to be hauled by a steam tractor before then travelling to the other end of the line to offload the same trailer!

Back at Caverswall Road, The locomotive sheds will be open for you to look around. Before you leave, Why not have a look in our gift shop? It's full of souvenirs for you to take as a reminder of your visit.
Once the timetable is finished and the engines are back in the yard, Our volunteers will be in our real ale bar telling stories of their day- They're all very friendly, Come and chat to them!

The latest information will be added as the event comes closer and the timetable will be available below too!
